- Order placed for manual transmissions from America's General Motors
Aisin AI Co., Ltd. (Head office: Nishio City, Aichi; President: Masahiro Suo) has accepted an order from General Motors Corporation for 5-speed manual transmissions (RWD type). With deliveries beginning in October of this year, GM becomes our company's second North American customer after DaimlerChrysler.
The transmissions will be used in one of General Motors' main models, the Colorado/Canyon series of pickup trucks (built in GM's Shreveport, Louisiana plant). The trucks are expected to go on sale in the North American market in the fall of this year. Manufacturing and assembly of the transmissions will take place at Aisin AI's main plant, while Aisin World Corp. of America (AWA; President: Junichi Nishimura) will handle sales.
The 5-speed transmissions to be delivered with this order are highly versatile transmissions used largely in mid-size SUVs. GM is the fifth company to place an order of this product. Including this order, total sales of the transmission are expected to amount to 3.6 billion yen in fiscal 2004. Based on the GM order, we are looking toward to strength our sales efforts and further expansion into the North American market.
